The demo runs on your browser with virtual credits. No card details, no deposit, no hidden catch. You're testing, not spending.

This is version 1.6.1.8 (updated 17/01/2023) - the exact build that pays real money. Same maths, same RNG, same feature triggers. Real Time Gaming doesn't run separate rigged demos. What you see here is what you'd get with cash on the line.

You don't need an account to launch it. No registration wall, no email signup. Click and play.

There's no spin limit or timer. You can test the free spins feature, work out the volatility pattern, or just kill 10 minutes. The demo resets your balance when it runs low, so you can practice as long as you need.

Useful for getting a feel before committing real stake. The 10-line setup and bonus mechanics aren't immediately obvious from screenshots - the demo shows you how it actually plays.

Before Fishin' Frenzy spawned nine sequels and became a fixture in every UK casino lobby, there was just this: a cheerful 2014 slot with a grinning sun, a handful of fish, and the simplest pitch imaginable. Land the fisherman during free spins and he'll catch whatever's swimming past. That's it. No Megaways engine, no Fortune Play mechanics, no Big Catch expansion – just Reel Time Gaming's original 5x3 grid and a feature you could explain in a single sentence.

What's fascinating isn't the complexity but the fact this straightforward design became the studio's golden goose for a decade. The free spins mechanic – fisherman symbols collecting cash values from fish – proved infectious enough to support an entire franchise, each sequel adding bells and whistles to what remains, at heart, an elegantly simple idea. Whether you're chasing nostalgia or genuinely curious what the fuss was about before the variants multiplied, the original still floats around UK sites, stubbornly refusing to retire.

How To Play

Fishin' Frenzy uses a two-part betting system that's worth understanding before your first spin. You'll set both the number of active win lines and your bet per line, which together determine your total stake.

Setting Your Bet

Click the stack-of-coins button (typically in the bottom right) to open the bet menu. You'll see two options here:

Your total bet (displayed under BETS) is calculated by multiplying lines × bet per line. The full range runs from 100 to 200,000 in currency equivalent, giving you substantial flexibility whether you're playing cautiously or chasing bigger wins. Once you've configured your stake, it'll be deducted from your deposit balance when you spin.

Starting the Game

The circular arrow button spins the reels. Press it once you're happy with your bet configuration. The reels spin and stop automatically from left to right.

Here's something non-obvious: while the reels are spinning, that circular arrow button transforms into a fast-forward button. Press it if you want to stop the reels prematurely rather than waiting for them to complete their natural spin cycle. Handy when you're playing multiple rounds.

Autoplay Configuration

The circular-arrows button (different from the single-arrow spin button) opens autoplay settings. Under SELECT NUMBER OF PLAYS, choose how many spins you want to run automatically. The game offers additional settings here—any marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory selections.

During autoplay, the remaining spin count displays on the button itself so you can track progress. Press the square STOP button to interrupt autoplay mid-sequence; you can resume by hitting SPIN again. Worth knowing: autoplay automatically stops when you trigger free spins or hit any bonus round, which is standard practice for UK slots and prevents you from missing the action.

Interface Notes

The right sidebar contains three control buttons—refresh at top, the C-button with circular arrow in middle, and the coins icon at bottom for bet access. The numbered boxes (1-10) running down both sides of the reels show your active paylines in color; inactive lines appear greyed out.

That's the practical control layout. Once you've got your bet sorted and know where the spin and autoplay buttons sit, you're set to play.

Bonuses & Symbols

Regular Symbols

Fishin' Frenzy uses a mix of fishing-themed symbols and playing card values. All wins pay left to right on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost position. The payout values below are based on maximum bet – they scale down with your stake.

You need at least three matching symbols (or two for the Pelican) on an active payline to win. Only the highest win on each line gets paid, but wins across different lines add together.

Wild Symbol – The Fisherman

Wild symbol - Bearded fisherman in green vest holding golden fish

The Wild is a bearded fisherman wearing a green vest and orange shirt, holding a large golden fish. Here's the thing: the Wild doesn't appear in the base game at all. It only shows up during free spins.

When it does appear, it substitutes for everything except the Scatter. During free spins, it also pays on its own: 5,000 for five, 500 for four, 100 for three, or 10 for two.

But the real job of the Fisherman isn't just substituting – it's catching fish. More on that below.

Scatter Symbol – The Boat

Scatter symbol - Fishing boat with golden glow

The Scatter is a fishing boat with "SCATTER" written on it, shown against a golden glow. Land three or more anywhere on the reels to trigger free spins:

  • 3 Boats = 10 free games
  • 4 Boats = 15 free games
  • 5 Boats = 20 free games

Scatters don't need to land on a payline – they count in any position across the reels.

Fish Symbols

Fish symbols with cash values

During free spins, you'll see fish symbols appear on the reels with cash values attached to them. These values are: 20, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, or 500 (scaled to your bet). The fish don't pay anything by themselves – they need to be "caught" by a Fisherman Wild.

Free Spins Bonus

Free Spins Bonus feature screenshot

The free spins round is where everything happens in Fishin' Frenzy. Trigger it with three or more Boat Scatters, and the game changes completely.

What happens:

  • You play 10, 15, or 20 spins (depending on how many Scatters triggered it)
  • The Fisherman Wild now appears on the reels
  • Fish symbols with cash values also appear
  • Every time a Fisherman lands, he collects the prize from every fish visible on screen

So if you've got three fish showing values of 100, 200, and 50, and a Fisherman lands anywhere, that's 350 added to your win. If two Fishermen land on the same spin, they each collect from all the fish – so you'd get 700 in this example.

The Fisherman still acts as a Wild during all this, substituting for other symbols to create winning combinations. And he pays his own values too if you land multiple Fishermen on a line.

Important details:

  • Free spins play at the same bet level as the spin that triggered them
  • All 10 paylines are active
  • Free spins can't retrigger – you can't win more free games during the feature
  • Stakes aren't deducted for free spins

The maximum win from the game is 250,000 times your total bet, which would typically come from a strong free spins round with multiple Fisherman catches.

The 2014 Original

Pros

  • Fish collection mechanic → fisherman scoops all fish values on screen, not just multiplied wins
  • Selectable paylines (1-10) → dial bet size down precisely, helpful for controlling stake per spin
  • Turbo spin available → fast-forward through reels when you're hunting the bonus
  • Wide stake flexibility → works from casual £0.10 territory to high-roller £200+ sessions
  • RTP displayed clearly (96.12%) → UK transparency met upfront, no hunting through menus
  • Straightforward fishing theme → bright, cheerful, no convoluted story to decode

Cons

  • Released 2014 → graphics and animations feel dated compared to modern slots
  • No wilds in base game → need natural symbol matches, no substitution help
  • Free spins never retrigger → your 10/15/20 spins are fixed, can't extend the feature
  • Just 10 paylines → feels limited against modern 243-ways or Megaways slots
  • Generic card symbols → 10-A fillers have zero thematic connection to fishing
